Just as words are constructed from prefixes, roots, and suffixes, so are online web addresses or URLs. 

You will learn to identify the domain name, extension, and individual page name of URLs or web addresses.

Common Extensions:

.org = any organization

.edu = Educational organization

.k12 = many US school sites

.com = company (in UK it's usually .co)

.gov = any government agency

.net = network

.mil = military institution

.ac = academic institution (outside of US)

.sch = some schools outside US
